Local Grocery Store

Teach na nDaoine FRC identified the need for a grocery store in the local community and purchased the building adjacent to the FRC with the vision to develop a shop & community hub.

Teach na nDaoine FRC managed the shop from 2014 to 2019, when at this time due to the success of the shop & growing demand on Teach na nDaoine FRC’s resources it was decided to lease out the shop to an independent retailer.

As part of this lease agreement & in order to increase social capital in the area, Teach na nDaoine FRC included a requirement within the contract stating that:

  • the retailer must provide employment to people with additional needs and members of the local community.

  • a retail training programme should be rolled out to upskill those seeking employment in the retail sector.

At present the shop is operated under the franchise of Daybreak with a total of 11 staff members who reach the required criteria.
